Beta Upsilon Chi - Zeta Chapter

Founding Story - Beta Upsilon Chi was formed at The University of Texas at Austin in the spring of 1985 by a handful of Christian men who desired an alternative to the present fraternal lifestyle. A group of Christian men met and planned the "BYX Island Party" to formally announce the fraternity's founding. It was the vision of the founding fathers to have a fraternity of committed Christian men, based on the unique brotherhood that a Christian atmosphere affords, for the purpose of fellowship and glorification of Jesus Christ. Through such events as parties, service projects, and evangelical outreaches, the charter members of Beta Upsilon Chi chose to unite in fellowship and edify Jesus Christ on the University of Texas campus.

About our Chapter - God launched a vision to begin a BYX chapter at Southwest Texas State in the spring of 1997, in the hearts of a group of 20 men attending the University of Texas Island Party in Austin. After returning home from a glorious night of worship and fun, The Holy Spirit begun to stir a desire in these men to form the tight bonds of fellowship and accountability shared by these brothers on our own campus.

Travis Young took the reins of initiating support to found a chapter with great interest on campus but few men who would step forward to take on the challenge. Dr. Gregory Marshall (Doc G) was invited to become our Faculty Sponsor and offered counsel and direction. But not until Brian Stone came along and called to order formal prayer meetings in the fall of 1997 did the founding fathers commit to a launch. Over the coming months Jerod Helms, Jeremy Williams, Kyle Williams, Jeff Heimer, and Chance Justice would join as Founding fathers of the Zeta Chapter.

Upon meeting with national directors to receive a probationary charter these men elected the first officer team and decided to throw a Winter Bash to celebrate the new thing God had begun among them. The following semester God brought together 19 pledges to launch the fraternity into existence. The brotherhood and fellowship found at Texas State is a deep and intimate brotherhood forged upon life long friendships and true accountability of men who ask the tough question no one wants to be asked, and expect honest answers. Our size which average 25-40 men has fostered a setting of transparent relationships and lasting friendships that God continually uses to make tremendous impacts in one anothers lives.
